Eviction turns deadly in Park County

BAILEY, CO – An eviction turns deadly when a man opens fire on Park County Deputies. It happened Wednesday in Bailey.

The suspect, 58-year-old Martin Wirth, had been going through a lengthy eviction dispute over the property. Officers followed him inside the residence, and Wirth began shooting. Authorities returned fire, killing Wirth.

Corporal Nate Carrigan, who was with Park County Sheriff’s Office for 13 years, was shot and died at the scene. Master Patrol Deputy Kolby Martin remains hospitalized in critical condition. Captain Mark Hancock was grazed in the ear. He was treated and released.
