COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Gazette reports suspected Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooter Robert Lewis Dear says he’s been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.
Dear wants to fire his public defenders, and represent himself for killing three and wounding nine in a November attack on the Colorado Springs clinic. Dear admits guilt, and says he committed the crimes because abortions are performed at the facility.
Dear returns to court next week, when the prosecution and defense will be given the results of his competency exam. An El Paso County judge will ultimately decide if Dear is fit to proceed.
He’s charged with 179 counts, including first-degree murder.
