COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Colorado Springs City Council voted Tuesday night in favor of a land swap with the Broadmoor Hotel.
The Broadmoor would get 189 acres called Strawberry Fields in Cheyenne Canon, where it plans to build horse stables and picnic pavilions. The city is receiving large amounts of property and easements, including on the Manitou Incline and in Bear Creek.
Opponent Richard Skorman believes they have a legal case to challenge the exchange. Opponents have already raised $35,000 to pay for legal fees and an attorney. They can also try to get the issue on the ballot next April by gathering 20,000 signatures.
More studies have to be completed before the deal can be closed. The Broadmoor also has to craft a master plan with the approval of the city parks department.
