COLORADO SPRINGS – A former El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy has been found not guilty of all counts in the fatal shooting of his wife in October of 2015.
Nikolas Gianes told officers he and his wife were fighting on the evening of Friday, October 16th. Gianes told police his wife came out of the bedroom with a gun and attacked him. He said his training and experience took over and he took the gun and shot his wife, Fawn Gianes.
Gianes was employed by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office from October 2007 until August 2012. The Sheriff’s Office would not say why he left the department citing it as a personnel matter. Gianes told police he had served in the military.
After arriving to the scene, police said it appeared Fawn Gianes died from a single gunshot wound to the neck.
Gianes faced charges of second-degree murder.
