
FREMONT COUNTY, CO – A community meeting will be held Thursday afternoon for the Hayden Pass Fire. The meeting starts at 2:00 p.m. and will be held in Westcliffe at the Custer County High School.
Fire bosses are now calling the fire a “marathon battle” with leaders of type two management teams are quoted as saying this is the number one priority fire in the county right now.
The fire has grown to nearly 12,836 acres and is still 0% contained.
Over 400 firefighters are battling the fire on the ground, while air tankers and helicopters are being used to help protect property as the fire inches closer.
New evacuations orders went into effect Wednesday afternoon, they include County Road 35 and the Eagle Peak Subdivision on the west side of County Road 1A.
Evacuations remain in place in Fremont County along County Road 6, south of County Road 45 and County Road 40, including the Fox Creek Subdivision.
According to officials some evacuees may soon be escorted back to their homes but only temporarily to get more belongings.
