FREMONT COUNTY, CO – The Hayden Pass Fire burning in Fremont County has burned 16,350 acres total and is 30 percent contained as of Sunday evening, according to fire officials.
All structure protection was completed by Saturday night. Full containment could take another six days. About 816 fire personnel are working the fire.
A combination of firefighting crews, heavy-lift helicopters, and strategic retardant drops from the DC-10 VLAT (Very Large Air Tanker) helped increased containment to 20 percent Saturday night, according to Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. Lack of fuel for the fire also contributed to containment, fire officials said.
Fire officials will soon make a recommendation to Fremont County Sheriff’s Office about when evacuees should be able to return to their homes. Evacuees are expected to be allowed temporary access to their homes again this week, but date and time has not been specified.
Another press conference will be held Monday at 10 a.m.
Existing evacuations and road closures remain the same and there are no additional evacuated areas as of Sunday morning.

- County Road 40
- Fox Creek Dr
- County Road 35
- Eagle Peak Subdivision West of County Road 1A
- Lutheran Camp (Custer County)
Pre-evacuations:
- 3 mile radius from County Rd 6
Road Closures:
- County Road 1A from Hwy 50 to Hwy 69
- County Road 39
