Type 1 Incident Management Team to take command of the Junkins Fire

CUSTER COUNTY, CO – A Type One Incident Management Team takes command of the Junkins Fire in Pueblo and Custer Counties at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The blaze has scorched more than 16,000 acres since it was sparked Monday. It remains 0% contained. Hundreds have been evacuated. Five homes and 15 other structures have been lost.

It started when high winds blew a metal outbuilding into a power line.

82 properties are under mandatory evacuation notices in Pueblo County, and 175 properties are under mandatory evacuation notices in Custer County.

Roughly 2,500 people have been notified to pre-evacuate in Beulah.
