Prosecutors in the case against former El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa have asked for more time to prepare

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Just weeks before his misconduct trial was set to begin, prosecutors in the case against former El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa have asked for more time to prepare.

Maketa pleaded not guilty in December to nine counts alleging corruption in office. The Gazette reports, he has a constitutional right to a trial by June 17th.

A hearing on the requested delay is set for 10:00 this morning. If a judge rules against a postponement, prosecutors must proceed to trial, prepared or not, or risk having the case dismissed.
