A bill preventing squatters from living in homes that don’t belong to them passed the house in a 62-0 vote this morning

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – A bill preventing squatters from living in homes that don’t belong to them passed the house in a 62-0 vote this morning.

Currently these uninvited guests can break into homes, move in and say they are legally entitled to live there.

And since the matter is considered civil, the owner of the residence is forced to evict the squatters through a court hearing just like in a case between landlord and tenant.

Under the new law judges will have to hear squatter cases within two days and if the eviction is granted police will be able to remove the squatter within about 24 hours.

In addition, those who damage to the property in any way could face charges.
