Penny the Giraffe, a local giraffe at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, is scheduled for her first surgery Monday morning.
Penny’s white blood cell count has started to increase. X-ray results from Saturday also revealed an abscess on Penny’s rear right leg is big and deep enough to require surgery.
The concern is that if her white blood cell count continues to rise Penny will decline in health.
Penny will be transported to Colorado State University where their veterinary staff will conduct her procedure.
