Colorado Springs has a new record for fatal traffic crashes.
The 44th fatal of the year happened Wednesday night at North Academy and Austin Bluffs.
A man was hit and killed in the southbound lanes of North Academy, near Morning Sun.
The driver fled the scene and police are looking for a dark colored Chevy Impala.
In 1986, 43 people lost their lives in the Springs in traffic accidents.
We have not received any word on the identity of the victim.
