STERLING – Another inmate is dead from the Coronavirus at the Sterling Correctional Facility in northeastern Colorado. There have been two deaths so far and the number of cases has now grown to 327. The update was posted online as part of a new state prisons database showing the results of Covid-19 testing across the state. The inmate who recently died in Sterling was a 61-year-old man and he has not been identified. The first inmate died on May 1st, at the age of 86.
The Crowley County Correctional Facility in Ordway, has 37-positive cases and roughly 40-prison employees statewide are currently on leave with issues related to the virus. Efforts are being made to screen employees and vendors at the various prisons. Inmates are regularly checked and masks are required. They’ve been kept in their cells and can only leave them to use the restroom or shower.
