Colorado Springs is considering a land purchase of nearly two-hundred acres including Black Canyon Quarry. The more-than-eight-million-dollar land deal would open access to a new trail head leading to Williams and Waldo canyons, but the city faces a long journey of land restoration if they agree to it. The quarry is still an open scar on the land and needs to regrow vegetation, a project that may cost up to four-hundred-thousand-dollars. The city expects the reclamation cost would be covered by a sales tax dedicated to parks, and finish the land project in five years.
