COLORADO SPRINGS – An idea to reopen the Manitou Incline doesn’t appear to have been very well received. In fact, the cities of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs are now at odds over the reopening.
At Thursday night’s Manitou Springs City Council work session, a discussion was held about using a new, free reservation system and limiting the number of people accessing the the Incline to 45-every 30-minutes. The talks led to one Manitou Springs City Council member saying the popular attraction should just remain closed indefinitely. He also suggested that Manitou Springs end its intergovernmental agreement to manage the Incline because it has become a burden to the community.
Manitou Springs ordered the closure of the Incline in March over concerns about the spread of Covid-19.
