You can help a 100-year old WW II vet celebrate his birthday on Sunday!

COLORADO SPRINGS – A very special event is taking place in Denver on Sunday and it’s being organized by a veterans group here in Colorado Springs. Disgruntled Vets was founded by Ryan Hemhauser back in 2014 to help vets cope with the many struggles they face both in and out of the service. One of the main issues the group tackles is the loss of 22-veterans a day to suicide. They also work to help vets find housing and jobs.

The event taking place on Sunday in Denver is a bit different and really, it’s a wonderful event. Disgruntled Vets is working to get as many people as possible to head up north to help celebrate the 100th birthday of a World War II Navy vet. He’s currently living at a nursing home in the Lowry subdivision, which has been built on the old Lowry Air Force Base grounds. If you didn’t realize, that was the base that our airmen were trained at up until the Air Force Academy was built.

Hemhauser says they want as many cars, trucks, motorcycles and people to be part of a parade to drive in front of the care center. If you’re interested in being the parade and wishing a vet a happy 100th, you’ll need to be at a parking lot at 7351 Lowry Blvd. (North of Alameda and Quebec) by 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

We don’t have many World War II vets left nationwide. So this is a way to show your appreciation for one of them here in Colorado. For more information on the event and on the Disgruntled Vets group, you can go to their Facebook page or click here for their website.
