COLORADO SPRINGS – Prosecutors in El Paso County are apparently unwilling to grant plea deals to protesters who blocked northbound I-25 at Bijou Street last June. An official who appeared in court yesterday confirmed during a hearing for one of the protesters that the D.A.’s office is not cutting any deals.
The “no deal” approach only applies to those who blocked the lanes of the highway, with the prosecutor citing the danger of impeding traffic on the interstate. An attorney for one of the defendants says the District Attornet Dan May is retaliating against the protesters for calling out what they call “racist policies” in the D.A.’s office.
