COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs police department is warning area residents about a scam in which a caller impersonates a police officer to get your personal information. The person tells you that they’re a detective who’s calling because your phone number was found with a victim during an investigation of a sex-trafficking ring.
The scammer then threatens the caller with an arrest warrant unless they go to a website and enter their personal information. Police say anyone contacted should request a personal meeting at a local police station or get the fake officer’s name and badge number and then call the police non-emergency line to verify their identity. Never give your personal information out to a stranger.
