A school district 11 school board candidate is blasting an anonymous letter writer for telling him to withdraw because of his sexual orientation. Joseph Shelton says he received the letter Monday and used Facebook to criticize the letter as homophobic and racist. Shelton said the letter writer seems to believe members of the LGBTQ community should not serve as elected officials, especially in a position that deals with children. Two current members of the school board have condemned the letter, with one saying that bigotry is unacceptable and that d-11 is a place where all people should feel welcome.
