Final Chance

11-22-23

The Air Force Football team has another, and final chance to make the Mountain West Championship game, if they beat Boise State Friday afternoon at 2 on 740 KVOR and KVOR.com. The Falcons missed an opportunity last Saturday falling to UNLV in a thriller 31-27. It is clear Air Force is not the same team without Quarterback Zac Larrier and Fullback Emmanual Michel, both out with injuries. And they won’t play Friday. Senior Quarterback Jensen Jones stepped in and helped the Falcons re-ignite the running attack. But he had a poor night throwing, missing a number of open receivers which could have changed the outcome. But you are who you are, and Air Force is a team finding itself, despite stumbling against Hawaii and UNLV, with another chance to set itself apart. Or a final chance at finishing the season with a thud. There are a lot of reasons the Falcons have been off their game, not just injuries. Teams have found some areas to exploit in the secondary, defenses have played the option better, and UNLV might be the best team to have played in the Springs in the last 5 years. Does this last stand, this last chance of defending the hill you stand on, this final push, get Air Force in? If it does all the credit in the world goes to the team for re-discovering its moxie and to the coaching staff for coaching around injuries. If it doesn’t the dreams of a conference championship abruptly end, the sting of losing to Army feels sharper, and it will go down as just another AF football season. Nothing more.
