How new postal service requirements affect El Paso County voters

The Supreme Court issued an order Monday giving authority to the U.S. Postal Service to only issue mail in ballots in federal elections to voters on lists generated by federal agencies. President Trump believes illegal immigrants are using mail in ballots to illegally vote. Steve Schleiker El Paso County Clerk and Recorder was on the Richard Randall show and says new requirements laid down by the Postal Service would include unique bar codes for envelopes containing ballots mailed to citizens and unique bar codes for envelopes containing ballots that would be returned to the clerk and recorders’ office. Schleiker says that’s not a problem for El Paso County voters because his office already uses those special envelopes. Schleiker says the biggest change is the establishment of a new portal where before a ballot is sent out the addressee’s name, address, phone number and unique barcodes would be entered into the portal.
