The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has denied a request from Colorado asking to help the families impacted by the Aspen Acres and Gold Mountain fires. Governor Jared Polis filed a request for the Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. That initiative would have sent direct assistance to residents impacted by the two fires, which would have included assistance to help rebuild homes and for temporary housing. The state can file an appeal but it’s unclear if officials will do so. No reason was given for the denial.
