COLORADO SPRINGS, CO –

For only the 25th time in almost a hundred years a Fort Carson soldier has been added to the Mountain Post’s “Wall of Heroes.”

Medal of Honor winner Captain Florent “Flo” Groberg, who tackled a suicide bomber in Afghanistan, saving the lives of most of his unit in 2012, was honored Monday.

Captain Groberg, now retired, has gotten used to being in the spot light, largely because of the medal around his neck, but that doesn’t mean he likes it.

“Nobody likes ceremonies.  You feel a little uncomfortable,” said Groberg.

Especially for a guy who doesn’t think he deserves it.  His feelings aren’t much different when it comes to being added to the Wall of Heroes.

“I just did my job so I don’t feel like I deserve to be on it,” said Groberg.

But the soldiers who lined up to shake his hand would disagree.  Some of them were old friends of his, while others were just honored to meet him, but Groberg said he’s the one that’s honored.

“They’re serving our country.  I’m done serving our country in that sense so I get to shake hands with men and women who are protecting us so its just an honor,” said Groberg.

But they’re not the ones going on the wall, or wearing the Medal of Honor.  It’s something Groberg doesn’t take lightly.

“They decided to put this medal on my neck and I decided that my message was to be the right courier for those that didn’t come home and their families” said Groberg.

But he said it doesn’t stop there.

“It gives me an opportunity to talk about incredible people who serve our country and I’m okay with that,” said Groberg.

Awards and press conferences like the one Monday morning will fade, but Groberg said his work is just beginning thanks to this new platform.

“I’m going to dedicate a lot of my personal time to go out there and make a difference.  I want to make sure that what ever I do, it makes a difference and not just words,” said Groberg.

One particular area he wants to help with is homeless veterans.
