
CUSTER COUNTY, CO – The Junkins Fire in Custer and Pueblo Counties, is now 3% contained. It’s burned close to 17,000 acres since it broke out on Monday.
It’s destroyed at least five homes and 13 outbuildings. More than 400 people have been evacuated and the fire threatens about 280 homes. Custer County Sheriff Shannon Byerly hopes to allow some people to return home by tonight.
Seven groups of 20 firefighters each are working in rough terrain to put out hotspots and build containment lines. 12 more hand crews are on their way.
