COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – It could be years before the Planned Parenthood gunman stands trial; if ever.
A judge ruled Thursday that 58-year-old Robert Dear is still incompetent to assist in his defense.
Dear admits to killing three people and wounding nine others at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood Clinic last November. The judge also rejected a request by Dear’s attorneys that he be blocked from communicating with the media. He’ll return to the state mental hospital in Pueblo, and return to court in February for another evaluation.
Under state law, Dear can be held at the facility for the rest of his life, and could potentially face the death penalty if convicted.
