Penny, a 2 month old giraffe at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, has been euthanized.
Penny was taken to the veterinary hospital at Colorado State University to undergo surgery on an abscess in her abdomen.
Doctors found Penny’s condition was worse than previously thought. The giraffe exhibit will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
A box will be placed outside of the building for visitors to leave cards for the keepers.
