Governor Jared Polis has announced a State of Emergency in Colorado due to the Covid-19 virus, also called the Coronavirus.
As of Tuesday morning there are 3 additional presumptive positive cases of Coronavirus, for a total of 15 cases in the state.
Declaring a State of Emergency provides access to more resources and flexibility in handling potential outbreaks.
Governor Polis stated that there will be a focus on protecting vulnerable populations including the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.
Health organizations have stated that the best recourse to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is to maintain clean habits including:
- washing hands regularly for at least 20 seconds
- clean work areas or heavily used areas with cleaning chemicals including wipes and hand sanitizer
- be aware of those who are sick with any illness including flu, cold, or Covid-19,
- if you feel sick then stay home if possible and use any medications given to you by a health provider.
The elderly and children are most at risk of Covid-19 and Governor Polis will be providing more details on what the state of Colorado will do for those groups at a later date.
