FORT CARSON, CO – Fort Carson is expected to lose 365 soldiers by 2017 as part of a broader Army plan to save $95 billion over the next 10 years and reduce its force by about 40,000 troops.
Fort Carson’s cuts will come from a 25% decrease of the 4th Infantry Division Headquarters, the reorganization of the Armored Brigade Combat Team, and from Explosive Ordinance Disposal units.
The hardest hit were Fort Benning in Georgia, and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, which both lost almost 3,000 troops. Fort Hood in Texas will lose at least 2,600 soldiers.
The cuts stem from a budget control act passed in 2011.
