TRINIDAD – A man in Trinidad is clinging to life Tuesday morning, after a package he found outside of his apartment exploded when he picked it up. Diego Hurtado was walking through his apartment complex in the 300 block of East North Avenue when he saw a box labeled, “Mommy and Daddy’s wedding rings.” When he picked the box up, it exploded. Hurtado’s brother says he lost all of the fingers on his right hand and suffered other serious injuries. Hurtado underwent surgery on Monday to remove shrapnel from his head.
Late Monday night, the Trinidad Police Department announced they have made an arrest in this case. With the help of the ATF and the Pueblo Bomb Squad, Trinidad Police said they arrested Jonathon Ryan Armijo of Trinidad. He’s accused of another explosion on February 5th. Armijo is facing the following charges: Two counts of Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder and Two counts of Possession/Use of an Explosive Device.
