State troopers are enforcing Colorado’s “Passenger Vehicle Traction”law

COLORADO SPRINGS – We’ve seen plenty of winter weather and bad road conditions in the last couple of weeks and the Colorado State Patrol says people either don’t care about the “Passenger Vehicle Traction” law, or they just don’t understand it.

Over a year ago, the law went into effect, requiring snow tires or chains on vehicles that aren’t four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, between September 1st and May 31st. The law is used far more on the i-70 corridor heading up into the high country, but it’s also put into place along I-25. Now troopers are starting to issue tickets to offenders and they can be costly, anywhere from $160-to $650-dollars, depending on the severity of the situation a driver is involved in.
