A man accused of causing a serious crash involving an officer is sentenced

COLORADO SPRINGS–Cole Sherod, the man accused of being under the influence of meth when he caused a head-on crash, was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday. The crash left officer Nicholas Hamaker with serious injuries. It happened on July 26th of last year on Dublin, east of North Union in Colorado Springs. Authorities say Hamaker was heading westbound on Dublin when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lane. Sherod originally faced two charges of drug possession and DUI, but those charges were withdrawn, and Sherod pleaded guilty to vehicle assault while under the influence. Hamaker is still recovering but says he has no plans to retire medically.
