The remains of Suzanne Morphew were 1 day away from being cremated before investigators were able to get them back. Morphew disappeared from her home outside of Salida in 2020. Her remains were found outside Saguache in 2023. Her husband Barry is in jail and will be tried for murder. Barry Morphew signed a document to move those remains from the El Paso County Coroner’s office to a springs funeral home. They then were sent to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s office and were about to be cremated before law enforcement and prosecutors decided they may be needed for evidence in the case. They took Suzanne’s remains back into their possession. Barry Morphew’s trial is expected to begin sometime this year.
