This Saturday’s matchup between Air Force and UNLV at 130p on 740 KVOR, comes in the middle of a season with the potential of shaping the top of the Mountain West Conference. The Rebels are undefeated in conference at 2-0. The Falcons are 2-1 following the loss to North Dakota State and win’s over Nevada and Northern Illinois. This year for the Falcons is the redemption season. 2 straight losing seasons have not sat well at the Academy and have been used by the players as motivation in summer camp to turn things around. A 4-1 start is certainly a big step forward. But now here comes a chance to make a statement in the conference race against one of the top teams in the West and declare yourselves contenders to get to the title game. Yes, there is still a lot of games left. But no, I don’t think this is hyperbole to describe this game in those terms. This is what you play for, these are the games you live for if you’re a competitor. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. If you want to be remembered years after graduation no better way than to win a conference title. The Falcons have put themselves in position to make this game mean something in mid October and it’s resulted in a buzz this week about the game. The opportunity is there to stamp yourself as a contender for the title. They earned that. Let’s see how much more is out there.
Quick keys-Air Force can’t let QB Jackson Arnold beat them. An excellent passer, and now has turned into a dangerous runner, not only scrambling but on designed plays. He is the second leafing rusher on the Rebels. The Falcons may have to put a spy on him all game long.
Get the fullback game and outside rush game going. And throw on first down occasionally, not necessarily deep, but short patterns to loosen up a Rebel defense that is absolutely trying to stuff the fullback game.
Bring your radios. The weather will be perfect. See Ya Saturday at 130 on 740 KVOR.
